BERLIN, MD — Purnell B. Jarvis, Jr., candidate for Mayor of Berlin, today assured Worcester County voters that he is not a write in candidate in the upcoming Worcester County Commissioners election.

“Steve Green won the Republican primary for District 4 fair and square,” said Jarvis. “He has every right to expect all the votes in the general election. A man should not have to defend his seat against a guy who isn’t even running for it.”

Frederick Bishop, President of Shorebilly University and Purnell's Campaign Manager concurs. "Look people, I'm deadly serious about this: Whatever you do, do not write in Purnell Jarvis for District 4 County Commissioner."

Rumors that Purnell wants the seat are false, Frederick emphasized, "Purnell does not want Worcester County voters to write in his name on the ballot for District 4. He's got too much work on his brother's farm this fall, and he's running for Mayor of Berlin anyway."

Jarvis too reiterated that he is not a candidate for County Commissioner and is in fact running for Mayor, a race that, he stresses, is a completely different election with a completely different hat.

"Writing me in for County Commissioner doesn’t help me, and it doesn’t help Steve Green. It just gives the Board of Elections a piece of paper with my name on it to file between two absentee ballots and a composting ordinance. I’m running for Mayor of Berlin."

Frederick concurred.

"Writing Purnell in is like parking Mom's broken down Lincoln on your neighbor’s property. It might make you feel good to get it out of your driveway, but sooner or later somebody is going to come out there and tow it away."

"It's pretty much like running for Berlin Town Council. If nobody else is running against you, that means you take it all by unanimous consent and get a free mandate from everyone," said Purnell, who notes nobody has filed to run against him in the next Berlin mayoral election, "so please, whatever you do, when you fill out your ballot in the County elections, don't even think of writing Purnell Jarvis in for Commissioner District 4. I've got my hands full planning to create Peelerville once I'm elected."

"That's right," added Frederick, "as Purnell's campaign manager, we are urging you to conform to expectations and not get tempted to enter Purnell's name as a write in."
